WHY I WANT TO BE A FASHION DESIGNER?

HI Y’ALL. 2ND BLOG POST IS HERE! ?

After I received the feedback from my “first blog” last week, I was soooooo surprise that a lot of people really DID check out my blog and actually READ my blog.  YASSSS!! THANK YOU ALL again for all the support.  I’m so glad and very happy with the feedback I got because that would keep me motivated to create even more and more- which means more fun stuffs coming! ?

Anyway.. let’s get into my story today.. (IT IS LONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

“WHY I WANT TO BE A FASHION DESIGNER?”

FIRST, WHERE DID IT ACTUALLY START?

In the first blog post, I mentioned that I actually really like to dress up myself and follow fashion trends since I was little. Even my mom told me that I used to watched a lot of fashion show (such as those high-end fashion on the runway kind of TV show) since I was in elementary school. But there were more stories behind that.. I didn’t know if I was really passion about it till I started drawing again during Senior year in High School.

BUT THAT WASN’T THE FIRST TIME I KNOW HOW TO DRAW..

Though, that wasn’t the first time that learned how to draw or knew how to mix color. But I ACTUALLY learn how to draw and create artwork when I was about in 2nd or 3rd grade (way back in Thailand). My mom loved to have me creating and working on something besides schoolwork, so she took me to several art classes during weekend (for example, dance class or drawing class).  It was actually helpful in a way that it relaxed me from all normal schoolwork, and surprisingly the teacher said I did a pretty good job with drawing and mixing colors. He really liked my work so he kept those works to show his future students and never returned them back to me.. like ever. ?  haha. so I indeed know how to draw since I was little.

THEN, WHAT’S THAT PASSION IN SENIOR YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL?

When I moved to the states, I didn’t really get to draw or study any art classes till the last year of high school. I wasn’t quite sure why, but I think it was because of my counselor in school that made me taking classes that would only help me improving English language. In between those years, I didn’t really get to work on drawing, but focused on reading, writing, and memorizing lectures (how sad). However, those English classes I took earlier in high school year, it eventually helped me so much in my senior year which was the CHILLEST year ever in school in my life time that I had 2 elective classes opened in schedule, then I basically took a design class and a painting class. And realized, HOLY SHIT, I STILL CAN DRAW!!!! ???????

AND I FIGURED THIS OUT..

I used to think that maybe.. I wana be an Engineer like my parents, or Dentist like my mom suggested (which is a NO NO!), or an Accountant (which I don’t like to do math anymore). But I just can’t do that. I lost my passion in studying, REALLY BAD, after high school. I know I’m still not that good in writing and I noticed that I have less attention and can’t focus when I’m reading something, so memorizing lectures isn’t my thing either. I graduated from high school with GPA of 3.98. It’s true my GPA is very high. But that isn’t really my thing! Having good GPA isn’t gonna make me happy with anything in life, but only one of those nice things I once achieved and I can  just talk about it once in awhile.. so I told my mom.. I don’t wana study anything that have to do with memorizing to get a degree anymore ?

THEN, WHAT TO DO NEXT?

While attending regular community college for GE transferring and figuring out what I really wana do next, I decided to take art classes because I still love the moment that I KNOW I CAN CREATE artwork when I was in High School. It took me about 2 years to prove my mom and my aunt that I have a passion of creating and becoming a designer. However, I didn’t know what type of designer I want to be yet, I just can DRAW and know that mixing color is my thing. I know that I’m happy every time I get to create some types of work. It is my thing. And I want to be succeed from what I create.

LET’S GET TO THE POINT… WHY I FINALLY DECIDED TO DO FASHION?

I noticed myself, I’m always looking for fashion trends and actually spending money all the time on cool clothes ? YES! HAHA. I love to research what people are wearing, what makes them look cool, what makes them look dope, what makes them look weird, what makes them look a little bit off, etc. Additionally to that, people around me always make such a nice compliment how UNIQUE and stand out I am when I’m dressing up. I just love wearing clothes that I think they are cool, not too weird, but still unique ?. I always feel confidence on what I’m wearing. Before I’m purchasing something, I always think of how I can utilize it and how I can rock it to make it look cool. It speaks my personality so well. YES.. it took me awhile to realize how much time and money I spend in fashion clothing. Then that makes me think… WHAT IF I CAN CREATE MY OWN CLOTHES?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YASS!! I FINALLY FIGURED OUT MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!! ?

I love creating something from scratch. I love taking my own ideas come to life. I LOVE DRAWING AND COLORING. I’m not scared of creating stuffs, but LOVE to tried it out. Anything that has to do with dressing up people, I LOVE TO DO THAT AS WELL. I found my happiness in this area and it makes me passionate. So, why not a FASHION DESIGNER!

SO THERE I GO, FASHION DESIGN SCHOOL..

YEP, I figured out that if I want to do fashion design, but I then never learned how to actually sew or construct, then how am I gona make those clothes?.. so I have to go to fashion design school! As all of you guys know, I decided to go to OTIS because they claimed to be one of the best fashion design school in the United States. YES. One of the best. Also, they offer BFA degree (which my parents want me to get). It’s also located in LA, one of the best city for creators to live. This is PERFECT! I am currently a rising Senior fashion student at OTIS. I survived for the past 2 years in school, and I have one last year left till graduation! CLASS OF 2018 is COMING BABY!! AFTER THAT, I CAN OFFICIALLY BECOME A FASHION DESIGNER!

HOYA!!!!!!

IT IS HARD not to talk about how I survived in fashion school..

But that would be a whole another story  ???????

I hope you all enjoy reading this. More contents to come. More project as well!**** (STAY TUNE!!)

You’re so welcome to leave me any comments, anything can improve my blog in the future!

THANK YOU!! ?

JENNIE L.
